Laboratory Infrastructure
EIM operates 15 national laboratories in its central facilities in Thessaloniki which realize and disseminate six of the basic measurement units of the International System (SI) :
Kilogram (kg), Meter (m), Kelvin (K), Ampere (A), Second (s), Candela (Cd)
as well as many derived measurement units.
In Athens, in the facilities of the General State Chemistry Laboratories of Greece, operates the "Laboratory for Chemical Metrology of the 5th Division of Athens / General Chemical State Laboratory – Hellenic Institute of Metrology” (ΕΧΗΜ/ΓΧΚ−ΕΙΜ) where the basic unit of the amount of substance (mol) and the derived units of SI in the field of chemical measurements are realized.
The peripheral laboratory EBOIA/EEAE (Ionizing Radiation Calibration Laboratory / Greek Atomic Energy Commission – Hellenic Institute of Metrology) which also operates in Athens realizes the units of Sv, Gy, and Cb/kg in the field of ionizing radiation.

Building Infrastructure
EIM operates in modern facilities, comprising state-of-the-art building and supporting installations. It occupies two separate buildings, of 4.500 and 1.500 sq.m., with excellent environmental conditions, appropriate for the maintenance of the national standards.

Most of the laboratories are underground, protected from vibrations and noise, thermal effects and electromagnetic interference and meet the most stringent requirements for temperature, humidity, vibrations and electromagnetic interference, as prescribed by pertinent international standards and specifications
